Futuristic Agriculture & Community Economic Development
Proving that the future African food system can sustainably be decentralised, individuals can be empowered, and that corporations and communities can contribute to improving agri-education, health, wellbeing and economic growth in rural Southern Africa.
Magabagabe Holdings is a 100 percent black woman-owned company focused on futuristic agriculture and community economic development. It was founded by Winnie Phala as a backyard garden operation in a rural village of Mohlaletse in Sekhukhune district of Limpopo province in South Africa in 2018, and formally incorporated in May 2024.
Our mission is to prove that the future African food system can sustainably be decentralised, individuals can be empowered and that corporations and communities can contribute to improving agri-education, health, wellbeing and economic growth in rural spaces of Southern Africa.
The African Grower addresses challenges around rurally appropriate, climate resilient and future-facing horticulture production with the Africanised Hybrid Hydroponics system that simultaneously addresses novel green production platforms that use less water, less space and are environment independent. It also uses digital-for-development integration for learning and extension reach as well as monitoring, evaluation and skills development needs.
